Sandhill Cranes in Evening Flight is inspired by the small family of sandhill cranes that lives in my Florida neighborhood. Over the years, I’ve loved watching them bring their downy chicks along after hatching and listening for their distinctive, rattling bugle calls as they lift into the sky and pass overhead.

This watercolor captures one of my favorite moments with them—the quiet transition from day to evening. Soft washes of golden light fade into gentle twilight purples as the cranes move effortlessly across the sky. Painting this piece felt like preserving a familiar, peaceful scene that always makes me pause and appreciate the simple beauty of nature at day’s end.
